2014-06-18genirq: Allow forcing cpu affinity of interruptsThomas Gleixner
commit 01f8fa4f01d8362358eb90e412bd7ae18a3ec1ad upstream. The current implementation of irq_set_affinity() refuses rightfully to route an interrupt to an offline cpu. But there is a special case, where this is actually desired. Some of the ARM SoCs have per cpu timers which require setting the affinity during cpu startup where the cpu is not yet in the online mask. If we can't do that, then the local timer interrupt for the about to become online cpu is routed to some random online cpu. The developers of the affected machines tried to work around that issue, but that results in a massive mess in that timer code. We have a yet unused argument in the set_affinity callbacks of the irq chips, which I added back then for a similar reason. It was never required so it got not used. But I'm happy that I never removed it. That allows us to implement a sane handling of the above scenario. So the affected SoC drivers can add the required force handling to their interrupt chip, switch the timer code to irq_force_affinity() and things just work. This does not affect any existing user of irq_set_affinity(). Tagged for stable to allow a simple fix of the affected SoC clock event drivers. Modify irq_domain_ops for CIU and CIU2 to "gracefully handle" GPIO lines (neither return error code nor call octeon_irq_set_ciu_mapping for it). This should avoid the warning. (As before the real setup for GPIO lines will happen using irq_domain_ops of gpio-controller.) This patch is based on Wei's patch v2 (see http://marc.info/?l=linux-mips&m=139511814813247). The boot hangs early on EBH5600 board when octeon_fdt_pip_iface() is trying enumerate a non-existant interface. The actual hang happens in cvmx_helper_interface_get_mode(): mode.u64 = cvmx_read_csr(CVMX_GMXX_INF_MODE(interface)); when interface == 4. We can avoid this situation by first checking that the interface exists in the DTB. 2013-08-26MIPS: cavium-octeon: fix I/O space setup on non-PCI systemsAaro Koskinen
Fix I/O space setup, so that on non-PCI systems using inb()/outb() won't crash the system. Some drivers may try to probe I/O space and for that purpose we can just allocate some normal memory initially. Drivers trying to reserve a region will fail early as we set the size to 0. If a real I/O space is present, the PCI/PCIe support code will re-adjust the values accordingly. Tested with EdgeRouter Lite by enabling CONFIG_SERIO_I8042 that caused the originally reported crash. 2013-07-19MIPS: Octeon: Fix DT pruning bug with pip portsFaidon Liambotis
During the pruning of the device tree octeon_fdt_pip_iface() is called for each PIP interface and every port up to the port count is removed from the device tree. However, the count was set to the return value of cvmx_helper_interface_enumerate() which doesn't actually return the count but just returns zero on success. This effectively removed *all* ports from the tree. Use cvmx_helper_ports_on_interface() instead to fix this. This successfully restores the 3 ports of my ERLite-3 and fixes the "kernel assigns random MAC addresses" issue. 2013-07-14MIPS: Delete __cpuinit/__CPUINIT usage from MIPS codePaul Gortmaker
commit 3747069b25e419f6b51395f48127e9812abc3596 upstream. The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c) and are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from the arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings. As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit related content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless. Here, we remove all the MIPS __cpuinit from C code and __CPUINIT from asm files. MIPS is interesting in this respect, because there are also uasm users hiding behind their own renamed versions of the __cpuinit macros. 2013-06-21MIPS: Octeon: Don't clobber bootloader data structures.David Daney
Commit abe77f90dc (MIPS: Octeon: Add kexec and kdump support) added a bootmem region for the kernel image itself. The problem is that this is rounded up to a 0x100000 boundary, which is memory that may not be owned by the kernel. Depending on the kernel's configuration based size, this 'extra' memory may contain data passed from the bootloader to the kernel itself, which if clobbered makes the kernel crash in various ways. The fix: Quit rounding the size up, so that we only use memory assigned to the kernel. CAVIUM_OCTEON_SOC most place we used to use CPU_CAVIUM_OCTEON. This allows us to CPU_CAVIUM_OCTEON in places where we have no OCTEON SOC. Remove CAVIUM_OCTEON_SIMULATOR as it doesn't really do anything, we can get the same configuration with CAVIUM_OCTEON_SOC. We kill the watchdog for each CPU and then spin in WAIT with interrupts disabled. This is the lowest power mode for the OCTEON. If we were to spin with interrupts enabled, we would get a continual stream of warning messages and backtraces from the lockup detector, so I chose to disable interrupts. 2013-05-08MIPS: octeon: Fix GPIO number in IRQ chip private dataAlexander Sverdlin
Current GPIO chip implementation in octeon-irq is still broken, even after upstream commit 87161ccdc61862c8b49e75c21209d7f79dc758e9 (MIPS: Octeon: Fix broken interrupt controller code). It works for GPIO IRQs that have reset-default configuration, but not for edge-triggered ones. The problem is in octeon_irq_gpio_map_common(), which passes modified "hw" variable (which has range of possible values 16..31) as "gpio_line" parameter to octeon_irq_set_ciu_mapping(), which saves it in private data of the IRQ chip. Later, neither octeon_irq_gpio_setup() is able to re-configure GPIOs (cvmx_write_csr() is writing to non-existent CVMX_GPIO_BIT_CFGX), nor octeon_irq_ciu_gpio_ack() is able to acknowledge such IRQ, because "mask" is incorrect. Fix is trivial and has been tested on Cavium Octeon II -based board, including both level-triggered and edge-triggered GPIO IRQs. Normal boot path on system with iommu support: swiotlb buffer will be allocated early at first and then try to initialize iommu, if iommu for intel or AMD could setup properly, swiotlb buffer will be freed. The early allocating is with bootmem, and could panic when we try to use kdump with buffer above 4G only, or with memmap to limit mem under 4G. for example: memmap=4095M$1M to remove memory under 4G. According to Eric, add _nopanic version and no_iotlb_memory to fail map single later if swiotlb is still needed. -v2: don't pass nopanic, and use -ENOMEM return value according to Eric. panic early instead of using swiotlb_full to panic...according to Eric/Konrad. -v3: make swiotlb_init to be notpanic, but will affect: arm64, ia64, powerpc, tile, unicore32, x86. -v4: cleanup swiotlb_init by removing swiotlb_init_with_default_size. These are parity protected only, so only error reporting. o Second level cache - ECC protected, provides SECDED. o Memory: ECC / SECDEC if used with suitable DRAM modules. The driver will will only initialize if ECC is enabled on a system so is safe to run on non-ECC memory. o PCI: Parity error reporting Since it is very hard to test this sort of code the implementation is very conservative and uses polling where possible for now.
