2013-04-29drivers: net: usb: pegasus: fix control urb submissionPetko Manolov
Pegasus driver used single callback for sync and async control URBs. Special flags were employed to distinguish between both, but due to flawed logic it didn't always work. As a result of this change [get|set]_registers() are now much simpler. Async write is also leaner and does not use single, statically allocated memory for usb_ctrlrequest, which is another potential race when asynchronously submitting URBs. 2012-05-18USB: Disable hub-initiated LPM for comms devices.Sarah Sharp
Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices. Comms devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished. Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state, using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their data transfer. If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of receiving data. Worse, some devices might blindly accept the hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the middle of receiving a transmission. The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host. In order to keep the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the same in Linux. Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications drivers. I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do. module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy trick. It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. Vendor:Product IDs The Belkin F8T012xx1 bluetooth adaptor has the same vendor and product IDs as the Belkin F5D5050, so we need to teach the pegasus driver to ignore adaptors belonging to the "Wireless" class 0xE0. Make pegasus driver not allocate a workqueue until the driver is bound to some device, which will need that workqueue if the device is brought up. This conserves resources when the driver is linked but there's no pegasus device connected. Also shrink the runtime footprint a smidgeon by moving some init-only code into its proper section, and move an obnoxious (frequent and meaningless) message to be debug-only. It is preferable to group drivers by usage (net, scsi, ATA, ...) than by bus. When reviewing drivers, the [PCI|USB|PCMCIA|...] maintainer is probably less qualified on networking issues than a networking maintainer. Also, from a practical standpoint, chips often appear on multiple buses, which is why we do not put drivers into drivers/pci/net.
