2017-06-05perf annotate: Add missing powerpc tripletKim Phillips
On an Ubuntu xenial system, 'perf annotate' says to install powerpc objdump on a system that already has binutils-powerpc-linux-gnu installed. Make perf aware of the missing triplet for the powerpc-linux-gnu target. 2017-05-04perf annotate: Fix AArch64 comment charKim Phillips
The commit 0fcb1da4aba "perf annotate: AArch64 support" blindly copied the comment character from the original: https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/5/19/461 whereas that same commit shows objdump output utilizing the C++ style "//" as the comment delimeter. Since '/' doesn't occur elsewhere in objdump output, we retain the single character check, but fix it to be '/'. Since it uses EINVAL unconditionally, it needs to also unconditionally include errno.h. Detected when recent changes made errno.h not be included by chance when tools/perf/arch/arm64/util/unwind-libunwind.c gets included by tools/perf/util/libunwind/arm64.c. I found couple of events using al, bl, cl and dl registers for argument. These are not directly accepted by uprobe_events and thus needs to be mapped to ax, bx, cx and dx respectively. An sdt probe can be associated with arguments but they were not passed to the user probe tracing interface (uprobe_events); this patch adapts the sdt argument descriptors according to the uprobe input format. As the uprobe parser does not support scaled address mode, perf will skip arguments which cannot be adapted to the uprobe format. 2017-03-14perf powerpc: Choose local entry point with kretprobesNaveen N. Rao
perf now uses an offset from _text/_stext for kretprobes if the kernel supports it, rather than the actual function name. As such, let's choose the LEP for powerpc ABIv2 so as to ensure the probe gets hit. Do it only if the kernel supports specifying offsets with kretprobes. Signed-off-by: Naveen N. In order to successfully decode Intel PT traces, context switch events are needed from the moment the trace starts. Currently that is ensured by using the 'immediate' flag which enables the switch event when it is opened. However, since commit 86c2786994bd ("perf intel-pt: Add support for PERF_RECORD_SWITCH") that might not always happen. When tracing system-wide the context switch event is added to the tracking event which was not set as 'immediate'. Change that so it is. Powerpc has Global Entry Point and Local Entry Point for functions. LEP catches call from both the GEP and the LEP. Symbol table of ELF contains GEP and Offset from which we can calculate LEP, but debuginfo does not have LEP info. Currently, perf prioritize symbol table over dwarf to probe on LEP for ppc64le. But when user tries to probe with function parameter, we fall back to using dwarf(i.e. GEP) and when function called via LEP, probe will never hit. Perf is already converting GEP to LEP when it uses symbol table. When perf uses debuginfo, let it find LEP offset form symbol table. This way we fall back to probe on LEP for all cases. 2016-07-26perf s390: Fix 'start' address of module's mapperf-urgent-for-mingo-20160726Song Shan Gong
At present, when creating module's map, perf gets 'start' address by parsing '/proc/modules', but it's the module base address, it isn't the start address of the '.text' section. In most arches, it's OK. But for s390, it places 'GOT' and 'PLT' relocations before '.text' section. So there exists an offset between module base address and '.text' section, which will incur wrong symbol resolution for modules. Fix this bug by getting 'start' address of module's map from parsing '/sys/module/[module name]/sections/.text', not from '/proc/modules'.
